Privacy Policy

We collect the following categories of information when you use the Service:

• Account information: your name, email address and/or phone number, password (stored as a securely hashed value, never in plain text), academic level, and institution, which you provide when you register.
• Usage data: the courses, cases, quizzes, and maxims you view or bookmark, notes you save, AI Assistant chat history, and lecture transcripts you create within the app.
• Payment data: when you subscribe to a paid plan, payment is processed by our payment processor, Paystack. We do not store your full card or mobile money PIN/credentials — we only receive confirmation of payment status, amount, and a transaction reference.
• Microphone audio (mobile app only):if you use the Lecture Transcription feature, your device's microphone is used to convert speech to text in real time, on-device or via your device's built-in speech recognition service. We do not record or store raw audio — only the resulting text transcript, which you choose to save.
• Communications: messages you send us via the Feedback or Contact Us forms, including your name and any contact details you provide.
• Device/technical data: basic technical information such as IP address, browser or device type, and general usage/error logs, used for security and reliability purposes.

• To create and manage your account, and to authenticate you when you log in.
• To provide the core features of the Service: course content, case briefs, quizzes, legal maxims, lecture transcription, note-taking, bookmarks, and the AI legal assistant.
• To process payments and manage your subscription status.
• To send you transactional emails (e.g. email verification, subscription renewal reminders, replies to your feedback or support requests).
• To respond to feedback, support requests, and other communications you send us.
• To monitor, maintain, and improve the security, performance, and reliability of the Service.

We do not sell your personal information to third parties.

We rely on a small number of trusted third-party service providers to operate the Service:

• Paystack — for processing subscription payments (card and mobile money).
• Resend — for delivering transactional emails (verification links, reminders, support replies).
• Neon (PostgreSQL) — for secure, encrypted database hosting.
• Netlify — for hosting the website and backend infrastructure.
• AI providers (used to power the AI Assistant feature) — your question text is sent to generate an answer, but is not used to identify you personally by these providers.

Each of these providers processes data only as necessary to provide their specific service to us, under their own privacy and security practices.

We retain your account and usage data for as long as your account remains active, or as needed to provide the Service. You may request deletion of your account and associated data at any time by contacting us (see Section 8) — we will delete or anonymize your personal data within a reasonable period, except where we are required to retain certain records (e.g. payment records) for legal or accounting purposes.

We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including encrypted database connections, hashed passwords, and access controls limiting who can view your data. However, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

LLB Companion is intended for undergraduate university students and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

• You can access and update most of your account information from within the app (Profile page).
• You can request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
• You can request that we delete your account and associated personal data.
• You can unsubscribe from non-essential marketing emails at any time (transactional emails, such as verification and subscription notices, are necessary to operate your account).
